The reason for Backlash?

I always wondered why the backlash rules exist.
I like the character backlashing but the unit backlash is not always meaningful. For example when both players play a combat monk, why not let them break their heads over it, if it's the first or second round?

that's exactly what they are doing, they destroy one another because they are exactly equal in power

No. Thats not what i meant and thats not what they are doing.

I asked why not let the players have at the same time the same unit on the field and let them feel fustrated when the other one wins by luck?

I actually like the regular backlash.

Because there are times when you need to skillfully use backlash to your advantage, namely backlashing a return grimoir, or a fire tornado. Or backlashing Dalos as you predict that they will be summoning it that turn, or any other regular unit for that matter character or not.

Its a legit move to make, and takes alot of mind reading + predicting. But it pays out big if you have field advantage and successfully backlashes your opponent.

But that's only because I use like 10 grimoires (wow... I wonder what my units-to-grimoires ratio is now).

Because backlash allows you to make huge tactical plays.

I absolutely LOVE backlashing my opponent's cyclones/returns/ball of flames.

I also love when my opponent fails to backlash my cyclone and saves myself 5 sp and a turn

I guess I must be a good topic maker if topics I created prior to even the alpha or beta launching are still getting responses.

To date I still don't really know WHY backlash exists, but I have come to enjoy it at times, both for its tactical (I know he needs to sylph that unit so I'll play my own sylph even though I don't necessarily want to sylph anything) uses as well as the mind games it can create (he just played meaning in failure at the same time as me, setting me back about 2 turns in my usual sp totals, I really need my remaining MiFs to go off or my file is going to go way too slow... so should I play the next one right now, or assume he's going to and wait to play it until later?)

very useful if you can backlash revival
which would mean you'd finally kill that card
and send it to the graveyard without peril of 2x more revives

the thing with revival is you also need to have a closed unit
otherwise the game will force you to select one closed unit
even an enemy's, to use revival's open skill
