What's the best tower defense game you've played?

Ever since the W3 tower defense mod, these games have been cropping up all over the place. I'm addicted to them and I'm looking for some suggestions to help in finding some cool new ones.

My favorites so far include gemcraft and mushroom tower defense. I'll give pirates vs. ninjas 1 an honorable mention because... it's pirates vs. ninjas lol.

I too enjoy Tower Defense games. I recommend Defense Grid: The Awakening.

PCGamer gave it an Editor's Choice award and rated it 90%. "A deep, strategic puzzler infused with personality."

Elemental TD is probably the most interesting and also the oldest one.
2nd best is gem TD.

My favourite was Gemcraft, but Xenotactics was pretty good. I didn't care for the second one as much, but the first kept me hooked for hours, maybe days.

I figured I'd download defense grid to check it out - I'm sure Inigo has great taste. However, after getting it, I noticed it needed steam to run! I've been highly biased against steam ever since I worked in a lan gaming center. I feel like starting to rant about it... but I'll control myself. It looked like a good TD game, too It's just not worth messing with the steaming pile of @%$# (as we lovingly called it) to play it, for me.

I've wasted way too much time on Xenotactics in the past. The best part is you can destroy your own units, which lets you change the exit end, forcing enemies back and forth through endless mazes until they're destroyed. And the graphics are so shiny.

While searching for something else i came across another tower game : Game Master of Defence

Monsters from Pixel Junk is incredibly good. And there's another Final Fantasy one Crystal something. I think they may be console only but Monsters has amazingly cartoon shaded graphics and a horde of build options and secrets.
