Man, I had such a nice bone necro... until ladder reset. Seriously though, I've given up on all grindy MMOs. Even now, I only grind because I promised my bro that I get the Falk EX pack for him to play around with...

Cash shop is only for scrub potions, but you don't really need potions if you're not bad. You also need to cash shop if you want to set up a shop or increase the size of your safe. Avatars have some stats, but you can buy those with gold from other players and they aren't extremely significant, but are pretty important for pvp. Avatars are random stat and random item, but you can choose which class and which piece. Right now there is an event where you can buy permanent advanced avatars with your choice of stat for 5.50 a piece, or you can get a complete permanent premium package which has even better set(8) stats but random stats on each item for 19 dollars total.

It's not like alteil or even some other games where you need to spend hundreds of dollars. Because there is a player economy, even if you try to gamble on avatars, you can sell them for gold or trade to get the look and stats that you want, and the stats are negligible for the most part unless you're into hardcore pvp. Even then it's not an "i win" button, but in these games, every little advantage helps, though the majority of it is skill. Lower levels get adjusted stats when fighting higher level players, so a level 20 player can beat a level 50, but they'll have fewer skills.
