Consciousness

When you awake after sleeping, do you have the same consciousness as you did before, or, has an entirely new consciousness with the same memories replaced you?

I know I have a consciousness.

For all I know, everyone else might just be mindless drones.

How would you know that this consciousness is yours, and not a small part of a larger one that you merely perceive as standing alone?

How does one even define "consciousness"? Grain all you know is that you're capable of thinking-if you're going to be playing the skeptics card.

My perception of the universe & self-awareness leads me to believe so.

I can't use a third party to confirm or deny my consciousness, I can only ask myself.

Har har har, this is such an appropriate thread for Ergo Proxy.

Are these 'self-awareness' and 'perception' part of your consciousness?

Are they not? Should I accept those things as what they seem to be?

There is no other way for me to analyze reality.

Whatever that is...

A sudden jolt and reality came back into focus. Is it strange that when your thoughts wander, you have no self awareness? Is it a wonder that you can be anywhere, anything, until that jolt of realization which pulls you back into your consciousness? Could it be possible that you were your thoughts, and this reality but just another thought. If you woke up at a different time, in a different place, could you wake up as a different person?

I wrote that a few years ago, think I was emo.

(Under the assumption that there is such a thing as a consciousness)
Well, if you state that you are unsure about whether or not your consciousness replaces itself/gets replaced, it would be highly troublesome to deduce any information about this by using it as a tool. Doesn't it?
