Definitely related to ghost duels- I have one from weeks ago still in the room, and haven't been allowed to change avvy since. Clearing my cache and whatnot popped up the message that I cannot change avvy during a duel.

same I think. Because of ghost duels probably although I am pretty happy with my current avatar set up.
