Adverts taking over forums?

Postby fargone » Tue Dec 11, 2012 5:13 pm

Hey guys,

Can anyone explain random words being linked to bad ads in the forums?

Is this a bot or is this revenue raising?

This is a nasty virus. My wife just had it on her computer. I'll see if I can find the info and post. She had links showing up in text on a lot of web pages. When you mouse over it, there should be some sort of website referenced. Google that and you can find the virus info yourself.

It does not show up on any virus or malware scan. Here's two links that can get you started -

Maybe not?

I have ad block of some kind activated on opera. Might have forgotten to add one to firefox too.

It's a virus. Adblock doesn't work on it.

So the virus only works on FireFox.

No. She had the problem in Firefox, Chrome, and although she never uses it, Internet Explorer. It worked its way deep into the computer and took quite a while to get it out. Had to be done manually.

I agree with Celsius in that is not natural behaviour of a machine, and neither the forum nor the webpage are actually infested by random hotlinks.
I assume you clicked on one of the spam bot advertisements?

Fargone, I don't use adblock and didn't saw anything that you described in Alteil web/forum.
I think caesar is right.

Good luck with removing it.
