The simple fact here is that if more people run the specifically anti-gowen soul card to get wins against Gowen, the average number of wins of all Gowen players will go down. This will happen to any sphere over-represented in Folrart. It's kind of a hammer in the face way of adding an level of game balance. Normally I'd be opposed to it because of that, but there is one other side effect. These cards all hit every card of the sphere in question, so it also prevents their user from splashing that sphere (and if one sphere is more popular than the others, chances are it's the sphere you want to splash -- I'm looking at you, Falkow users who started with Blitz). Therefore, the user is giving himself an extra handicap, even when fighting the target sphere.

DanTheTimid wrote:Lets look at it this way, lets say his deck could beat any other sphere but gowen most of the time previously, but almost always lost to gowen.

That hypothetical was never established, and the impression of a top deck in my opinion was a deck that could beat the majority of popular decks not specialising in defeating one specific target. I did state that if he had trouble with Gowen specifically the soul skill may be an effective choice, but using a ss like this takes a lot of utility out of your deck/soul skills. The question now remains, has Grain lost the majority of games against other spheres/play styles due to the change in SS?

What is his aim anyway? Win-loss ratio for the gran each week? RP? Fun? A streak of non gowen players could impact negatively on his win-loss ratio, same with RP, and if its for fun of beating gowen players why not take it to the extreme? Pack more of those SS=/ Or play say falkow which counters gowen pretty well.

I don't play gowen anymore, gowen has issues with some speed lawtia decks and almost every big creature deck, both which are very popular.
