Pangloss's Replay Pack - Updated 7-20-10

Postby pangloss » Fri Jul 02, 2010 6:36 pm

EDIT: The first 4 links are dead now. Hopefully someone got to view and enjoy them. See below for more!

1) Big Blue vs. Wizard Kingdom
Neither of our decks were perfect. Still, pretty exciting to play; it came down to the wire.

2) Martial Artists vs. Big Red
Some suboptimal plays and a little bit of luck, but another good, close match overall.
https://login.alteil.com/auditorium/ind ... 906ff4bed9

3) Fierte Rush vs. Mirelia Fierte
I've never seen a deck like my opponent's! I've heard of Diondora Fierte, but not Mirelia.
https://login.alteil.com/auditorium/ind ... 162c72eca5

4) Mermaids vs. Mid Gowen / Lawtia
One of my first few games with Mermaids...I was still trying to figure out my SS lineup and opening. Pretty good endgame though.

UPDATE: These are the 5 games I currently have saved:

1) Mermaids vs. EX Lap w/ Returns
Based on the grimoires I baned (MoF and aura), I thought he was playing big or mid refess. So I made a mistake on turn 5 in playing Mermaid Aquamancer.

2) Lawtia Rush vs. Frog, Tortoise, & Serpent
Grimbane makes another appearance and messes up a few SS, causing one to backfire. A heartbreaking finish!

3) 4 Sphere Bigs vs. Dullin Fierte
Sign of the Fall vs. Shield of Truth. Unfortunately never got out my big units this game.

4) Beast Hunter / Rivera vs. Command Dolls
Narrowly complete an epic combo as my opponent doesn't take advantage of a one turn window to stop it. Removed my grims after this game. ;)

5) Mermaids vs. Big Lawtia
This is the same Mermaid file from the EX Lap w/ Returns video. Here, their power vs. big files is demonstrated. Tough match up, and I made some failed predictions. Luckily, baning key grimoires at the start allowed me to utilize Mermaid Aquamancer.

The mermaid matches caught my eye. Nice to see people playing them! Maybe I'm crazy, but I think they're an underrated file. Really need Metia and Emma to click though.

Nice wins.

Disagree with Emana on mermaids. Just too many action skills that make emana not worth the filespace IMO.

As for Metia, if you can get her running, she's an absolute beast. You don't even need that many turns with her, since she provides a one-sided rats to your entire army. How many times a game do you need to use rats?
And now, a special comment...

You have never played with a mermaids deck so I don't trust your opinion. There are even more units that just have normal attack abilities. Maybe I'm just stupid, but I really think she would be important.

Emana and Metia are must-haves in mermaid decks

I think they're pretty underrated too Gon!

@YOUsir

Emana is characteristic of many support units in this game...when she works, she's really good. When she doesn't, she's just grim or SS bait. So far that hasn't been so bad though.

Against Gowen, she's not always useful since even the units in the starter have tons of action and auto skills which bypass her protection (although your opponent sometimes has to spend SP to use those). This is generally a tough match up and usually I have to get lucky with Mermaid Spear Fighter's open to win.

Against Falkow, she's actually decent but you pretty much have to exhaust their returns first and have a stable field when you play her, pretty tricky against something like WK.

Against Lawtia and Refess, your mileage will vary, but she is generally good. She shuts down Undeads, for example.

That's mainly for level 3 files, since she isn't really part of the game plan versus bigs.

But yeah...I've noticed I am starting to play her more late game, after my opponent has used up a lot of ways to deal with her, and this is working better.

Metia is a beast though...like Mage Knight and Pegasus rolled into one (almost). My main problem playing her so far is that sometimes for lack of SP she comes online a bit too late. There's definitely potential for a hybrid file that doesn't solely rely on Mermaids and Deep Ones, since as you said her skill doesn't need to activate that many times to do serious damage. Also, since I used Fellana I didn't pack extra grimoires. I think maybe someone willing to throw in Return over Emana (or something else) and change the opening might do quite well with such a file. I just decided to avoid that for now since everyone seems to be tired of Return at the moment.

Watched your mermaids was nice, the metia return must have had you facepalming like mad. I have a different take on the mermaids theme but like the suggested hybrid file it uses leet fencer as a backup tank.
What metia would really work with is a multi hitter but until set 7 (not really checked this set) there arent many falklow units that can hit multiple units with their attack value other than perhaps lolbert.

Yeah, I was definitely facepalming, at first I thought that was basically game over right there. I played Metia thinking that there was pretty much no way he would leave Aquamancer on the field the turn after he played Scarrion. But since it looked like his best answer was Death's Embrace I decided to keep playing after that misstep and it eventually worked out.

It seems like a lot of the falkow units that hit multiple units either don't depend on AT (rubia, sorcerer monk, sea serpent, rasam) or already have high AT (bog wyvern, lolbert, sort of). Maybe some brave soul can try Metia + Larut...
