Better ways to help new guys out here

Postby idol » Fri May 11, 2012 12:04 am

Alteils learning curve is not easy to overcome.
I am suggesting to open a sub-forum for sample files, which consist of:
1. picture sample of the file
2. concept of the file
3. opens and counters of the file
4. other card options of the file
5. list of cards as suggested by replies
(kind of like what JP has)

By doing so, you
1. prevent information being scattered across Annaroses sanctum.
2. give newbs some files to be competitive while learning the game.
3. set a format for guides

More work for mods, sorry, but, I think its the better way to go.
I suggested for lvl-up card sub-forum, it got accepted, and actually worked.
And I think this would also work well.

I approve of this, maybe a guide/build template?

Somthing like:
(Falklow) Emana-less errata mermaids
Image
Average win rate 60%

Open: Sheild -> Girl sorc -> fighter(human) -> Merm trans -> Metia(if shield or girl sorc died)

Concept:
using shields free revive and high agi to keep pressure on enemy, engage with sorc if possible
Girl sorc get to engage other sides lv1, 2 unit sometimes and prevent it from triggering SS
Push out Metia early to utilize dead shield and girl sorc
Focusing on Metia and spear human, sylph spear to use skill, then withdraw it

Other card options:
Emana = 70 up win rate
Cyclone countering rushes, but that's bad with this opening
Song sorc human to counter bigs
Wrath coz return works

Weak against:
Owlsage
Emana
Gowen dmg grims

Something like that but can be more detailed like what gon did in his thread

It's sad this thread got so few replies. Well, I did my share to help the newbies.

I think it would be better to list the cards in the files too. Not all of us could recognise the cards from the pics.

Btw I lost to a Mermaid file with Emana and falkow pike, it was very nicely built and played.

I'll second this concept of listing the cards and adding a strictly deck archetype subforum.

Not joking, but i actually tell new players they SHOULDNT play alteil, i know it sounds mean, but considering it saves them time wasting playing the game they will eventually quit, seems more fruitful and less stress.
NitroDino : the thing I don't like about blacksun type players is the only thing they want is to win.

Just read the new replies of the post, thx all for the support. I'm thinking PM mod about this idea.

@asxlen64
As new players quitting and old players dieing whos gonna play Alteil?
Its not like everyone can switch over to JP version, I can if I want tho.

New players often don't visit the forums in their early days. If they don't get a game, they leave to something else. Only when interest is really sparked they might motivate themselves to do more research on forums and become better.

It's nice to gather the information for them, but i feel there's alot more progress to be made helping new players.

- "Easy" Starterdecks.
Refess: Knights(guardian) + ExBeneficient // Stardragon
Gowen: Orcs + ExGrebados
Lawtia: Undeads + ExCAK
Falkow: Mermaids
I say easy, but not every sphere has that many options. It sure as hell can be easier to understand then current strarterdecks though.

- "Take an Apprentice" Challenge.
An insentive for the community to interact and 'train' a low level iczer. Details can be found in simulair named thread under Safiria's Planning Bureau.

- "intergraded chatroom".
Direct link with the rest of the community. Newbies can ask questions during their battle when they arise, and are more inclined to do so. (perhaps devide in different Tabs, with one saying 'general' and the other 'beginner questions')

- "Lapierre Advice"
Display Tips and tricks. We have this Partner aviable, a loadingscreen, and wasted space everywhere. Display good advice in the cardfile editor to the left about deck construction, the importance of openings on battleloading/chatboxopenphrase, etc.

- "??"
Can think of more, but i'm done for now. I hear myself repeat old stuff and it's getting annoying... to much repeating, nothing changing.

Updating the starters will go a long way to keeping new guys.
