In fact it's actually fine in MTG. You'll probably hate damage more ...

You're not far from the truth. For some formats last year, the metagame has been dominated by a deck whose strategy relies on one-cost creature with 3 PWR and Flying to deal accumulative damage. By the time you can strike back, they can just burn the very last few life you have.

You've just spent 2 cards from your hand. Efficiency is very important in games where you don't have a 25 card hand. A blue deck prefers to go dual or multi-color for Wrath of God or whatever fake Wrath is type 2 at the time. I personally stick to 1.5, so I'm not always up to date on the new stuff.
