60 card expansions

Postby Visfarix » Sun Sep 20, 2009 9:50 pm

In just about every single card game, card rarity distributions have always been so that there are more common cards(1* cards) than uncommon cards(2* cards) and approximately equal number of uncommon and rare cards(3*, 4*, and 5* cards), but in each of the 60 card expansions (sets 3, 4, and 5) there have been equal amounts of 1* and 2* cards(5 each).

While this might not seem like a big deal I think it actually unbalances card pull and distribution rates, and players end up with a disproportionate amount of repeated common cards, which forces them to recycle alot more often then they should. Future sets should be changed so that their are more 1* cards. Maybe if cards were changed so that their are four 2* and six 1* cards. I mean even now when I look through the card list I can see many 2* cards that can easily be changed to a 1* card without requiring significant errata or any errata at all.

On another note, are all sets after sets 1 and 2 going to be 60 card expansions?

I asked that question, and this was the response:
cervelo > no the sets will always vary but they will always have themes
cervelo > like notice mermaid, magic doll, shrine knight
cervelo > merc nation

I'll check with Logress about the size of future expansions, but please remember that what cevelo says shouldn't be taken as the word of the GMs.

I just looked through the Japanese sets. They all seem to have about 60 cards.

Set 9 has 64, but thats only because from that point on besides the 4 spheres you now have Multisphere cards. So basically add an extra chunk of cards giving sets from 9 and up 5 instead of 4.

I'd rather 100 card sets, myself... although boy, 60 cards is a lot less work. I think for the sets changing the number in each will be difficult, though.

I was trying to point out how there aren't enough 1* cards in alteil and the game seriously needs to increase the number of commons per expansion, but almost everyone that commented seems to have decided that my side question was more important than the main point of this thread. That kind of makes me sad... :(

It's okay, I agree with you. The point of commons is for there to be more of them than uncommons.
