Another suggestion to the matchmaking system

Postby Demongod » Fri Dec 11, 2009 4:51 am

Simple solution: have both players confirm that this is a desirable matchup. Since there aren't enough players to match up on RP yet, if a player just coming out of Crest doesn't want to face a level 70, why force him to?
Nerf Elite Fencer. Change start skill to "target unit of agi 4 or higher gets AGI = 3. Then, this unit gets AGI = 4 for this turn and ATK +10"

For the great justice of the diverse meta.

Alteil is pretty much well balanced. Sometimes you loose and sometimes the enemy wins.

Reason 1.) Cool. And then those high RP players will play....?

Reason 2.) Hmmm, i want some easy exp, lets see..

*Makes alt account*

*Searches with both in Folrart until they face each other*

*Beat up alt, get exp, repeat*

Alternate Solution: Have that option... until you reach level 20, then its gone.

Kinda defeats the purpose of random matchups in the first place.

And I heard in some thread that players actually try to fight their alts for easy wins. This would be a convenient system for them.

And win/loss records will now mean a completely different thing. You can just avoid files you're weak against. Usually files for low levels don't change. Easy enough to list them on paper and never fight them again.

Not fighting against high lvls sounds so tempting though...

Yes, yes! You are getting there, why fight high levels, if i could fight lows?

High levels usually have a more organized strategy. Maybe i just want to play for fun (as a level 100)? They should focus more on the concept of having fun! ;th2

That alt issue is easily rectifiable by simply having only one version of Alteil be runnable from one computer. If you've ever played warcraft 3 or Diablo 2 and you'd try to run two instances of the game, you'd get an error saying "game is already running." But that's just a matter of technical issues.

As for "who would the high RP players play?"

Each other. If this game is supposed to be fun, the last thing you want to do is to sacrifice the definite majority of players (free players) simply to appease a few paying vets. If the paying vets want to actually have people want to play with them, then A) they can make a free alt B) they can concede right before the game ends EG: "I can't revive my critter and I'm at 1 LP. Game over. Can you give up please?" or C) otherwise make it so that the game is actually a match, rather than a free win for them.

Which can easily be countered by playing Alteil on two different computers. >.>

You can be logged into 2 accounts and have different IP for each from the same computer. And you can have your starcraft opened twice on the same computer too, at least i can.
