The Circle's List of File Types - Gowen

Postby Jazzock » Mon Nov 05, 2012 8:25 pm

This is an outline of several gowen file types and the common cards found within it. These threads are essentially an updated version of Harvests threads. These aim to make it easier for newer players to see what works well together and hopefully allow them to make their own exciting files. I'd like to thank The Circle - especially NitroDino who basically wrote this up by himself. Special Thanks once again to harvest4god who inspired these threads. I will try to keep these updated.
Note that I am defining 'rush' files as Lv 1-3 files, Mids as files which use at least 1 Lv 4-6 unit and Bigs as files which usually use at least 1 Lv 7-9 unit for simplicity.

Low Level / Rush Files

Pixies
Most Pixies have unique open skills and some of them lock a good part of all cards. The main goal of the file is to lock key cards of your opponent while swarming the field with your fairies. To master this file it requires a lot of skill and knowledge about the game.

Key Cards:
Faerie Heroine / Mitzett *** - the tribe buffer on open and start
Pixy Greatswordswoman * - really important because it locks cyclone
Archer Pixy * - locks cyclone too and annoying big cards like Allind or Zu

Common Cards:
Pixy Assassin ** - open damage
Pixy Healer * - protects your low HP pixies from open damage and if timed correctly with Archer and Greatsword can keep Cyclone useless, in some variants she is used to raise Gowen levels to use Bringer late game
Fairy Knight / Torte *** - the tank of the file and can be a really good damage dealer
Pixy Dual Wielder * - free reviver and can one shoot many things
Mage Pixy ** - locks character on open
other pixies
Fairy Dance ** - similar use to Healer
Dragon Breath * - cheap damage
Fireball Breath ** - similar to Dragon Breath
Dragon Slayer / Bringer ***** - endgame and killing units with high DF, sometimes found in pixy files
Shield Coat / Fierte **** - Good soul skill, helps dealing against any mid or big file, depends on play style and current meta.
Treasure Hunter * - gets your pixies back to keep locking your opponent
Cemetery Rats * - similar use like Mitzett's open, doesn't work if you use Healer to buff the levels
Heroic Faerie / Torte *** - Similar to mercenery in a sense that she self buffs and self level ups at the cost of SP. Punishes users of defense as she takes their defense for her own benefit.

Gowen Rush
This file aims to play strong units quickly and support them with open skills to take out opponent's weakened units or support units. This type of file tries to use cards which are good in many situations which ends up being this file's main strength and aims to overwhelm the opponents by hitting them with a steady stream of damage from salamander open skills, soul skills and grimoires. An example of gowen rush is the Gowen Starter.

Key Cards:
Salamander * Can kill units with open skill and decent unit on the field. Also used to activate soul skill.
Soul Skills which deal damage

Common Cards:
Bellydancer / Kurina *** Free revive and buffs friendly units. Good all rounder unit.
Man-Eating Tiger * Free Revive and can deal good damage to back row support units. fairly tank for a lv2.
Gun Princess / Yuni EX Great Open skill, can buff friendly units, also ignores def with action skill
Light Heierrat Fighter ** Another free revive.
Mercenary * Possible mid-late game unit which can scale it's stats to be very powerful.
Forest Rhino ** powerful unit able to deal a lancer-style attack.
Alraune ** If left alone this unit can become very powerful, ignores def.
Feline Kin Knight ** Good start skill when focused. Average statwise
Flame of Hatred / Dullin EX Can get very high attack, deals good damage, very tank for a Lv3.

Heroic Faerie / Torte *** Similar to mercenery in a sense that she self buffs and self level ups at the cost of SP. Punishes users of defense as she takes their defense for her own benefit.
Any other gowen lv3 unit who is good at 1v1.

Worthing's Championship Gowen Rush

Orks
The idea of this file is to use cards that boost the Ork subtype and overhelm your opponent. It is a gowen level 3 rush file. Most of the cards are common except Grebados who is EX and EX Giant Ork, that makes it a little hard to build. The theme of Orks are auto skills that bypass DF and after dealing damage they get engaged.

Key Cards:
Ork King / Grebados EX - tribe buffers, can revive Orks and deal damage at the same time, iczer attacks for 2 LP
Ork Commander ** - tribe buffer, can make Brebados agi 1 so he will go last and be able to revive an Ork or agi 4 to revive an Ork killed by a soul skill/open damage, he can iczer attack which most Orks can't

Common Cards:
Giant Ork * - auto skill that bypasses defence
Smart Ork * - auto skill that bypasses defence, rank up and after rank up grimbanes for free

Monsters
Monsters or gowen monsters is a gowen rush files. The main idea of the file is to use swarm the field with monsters, the two main combo is to use Forest of Hate's start skill to disengage Rhino and Gorilla so you can use their skills every turn.

Forest Rhino ** the tank of the file
The Forest of Hate ** important to disengage Gorilla and Rhino after they use their action skills
Man-Eating Tiger * free revive

Myconida ** double hitter and enables some poison related cards
Devouring Lizard * tank with auto heal

Vicious Raptor * fast and can help dealing with DF
Forest Child / Athira *** gives you a free gowen level and heals your monsters
damage grims

Example Files:

The main strategy behind this file is to rush out Natasha and use her ability to special summon as many Plant Monsters as you like. The rest of the file are usually standard units you will find in any gowen Monster file.

Key Cards:
Garden Queen / Natasha EX - special summons Alraune, Myconida and Blitz Beetles

Mid Files

BKR & friends (Beast King Rivera, Jack and Bringer)
This file was once really strong, got some cards nerfed but it is still really good. Probably one of the best RP files with Big Red. It requires a lot of rare cards to build. The main combo is to use Beast Kings Rivera's auto skill to raise AT of all your attacks and then use Jack to double kill your opponents. Jack helps generate some gowen levels until 6, then Bringer is used to lower them so he can use his auto skill again. It usually uses an all damage ss line up around 9-10 LP.

Key Cards:
Beast King / Rivera ***** - stalls and keeps raising Attack damage permanently with her unique ability.
Strongest Gun / Jack Winston EX - double hitter, generates sphere levels and has a useful MaxHP hate skill

Fire Storm Wyvern ** - used for more open skill damage
Dragon Breath * - cheap damage
Forest Hero / Athira Shin **** - once he "level ups", he is really hard to kill

Mercenary Nation
The main idea of this file is to drop Field Commander and 1 other Mercenary Nation unit (usually the first is Revolver Bladesman), by using the action skills of other Mercenary Nation units you generate SP for free which helps to drop more units. Once you have more units you can use the second skill of Field Commander to do double damage with one unit per turn.

Key Cards
Heierrat Field Commander ** - the main reason you want to use the Mercenary Nation subtype
Heierrat Revolver Bladesman ** - his pinpoint combos really great with Field Commander and he has really awesome stats after rank up

Common Cards:
Gun Princess / Yuni EX - open can kill annoying great spirits or used to stack damage with soul skills, additional buffer and can deal with DF with her skill

Heierrat Sniper * - Accurate ranged unit who can deal lots of damage especially to enemy characters.
damage grims (Fire Arrow, Ball of Flame, Dragon Breath, Brave Strike because most of your units are Warrior subtype units)

Example Files:
MercNation

Martial Artists (MA)
The main idea of the file is to use the multiple AT abilities of your Martial Artists to crush your opponent, in other words just press AT button. Damage grims are used to lower the number of opponent units if you are outnumbered or to deal with powerful enemy units, so you get a field of 2 against 2 where your units are individually a lot stronger in most situations. You can get many of these cards from the Martial Arts Masters Pre-build from the shop.

Key Cards:
Mad Beast / Dandan *** - One of the strongest MA and of course a really strong stand alone unit

Common Cards:
God of Anger / Dista *** - used up to 1 or 2 copies because of the open

Mid/Big Red

Ball of Flame * - open damage
other open damage grims
strong stand alone units (see common cards for more info)

Volcano Wyvern ** - really strong start skill and usually can deal with more than 2 units
Giant Dragonfly * - used in some versions because of the open skill
Giant Arthropleurid ** - a really good unit to stall, can deal damage to multiple units and gets stronger and stronger every turn

Archer Scout ** - used as open
Burning Air * - Can be used to clear the board and kill many lower hp units.
Boulder Drop * - deals row damage to both sides of the field.
River of Fire * - see Boulder Drop
Efreet ** - A fairly powerful mid-endgame unit for gowen with a semi-bof auto skill and a slightly stronger fire arrow action skill. Come's with a decent Open skill as well. Be warned, very SP intensive to use.
Gun God / Ben MacLachlan *** - Powerful ranged unit when ranked up. Can be difficult to kill at times and Multi hits when focused. Can scale attack to very high values.
Three-Headed Dragon ** - A very random unit which can range from very powerful, to fairly useless. On average though it seems to be a strong add to a big file due to it's potential and raw damage output.
Explosive Wyvern * - A unit who provides a 'free' BoF (Ball of Flame) splash as an open skill. Can be used to weaken or finish off weakened enemy units.

It's coming, Gowen isn't exactly the Circle's most used sphere

Wow, that's some awkward wording you guys used there. You struggled a lot with this one, didn't you?
Well, most of the files I can agree with since Gowen can be relatively liberal with its file composition.

Jazzock wrote:Dragon Slayer / Bringer ***** - endgame and killing units with high DF
Shield Coat / Fierte **** - really important soul skill, helps dealing against any mid or big file

I would rather remove or at least denounce the importance of those cards. Most pixy files don't exactly use an endgame unit but focus on continuous outpoor of pixies through Treasure Hunter. The entire Pixy>Mid/Big Gowen setup definitely works but has little to do with a classical pixy file, SS wise.

As for Fierte your mileage may obviously vary, but she can hurt both swarm based as well as lock/iczer based pixy files worse than the enemy in some cases. It is definitely an option, but it is not "really important" and in some cases "counterproductive".

Jazzock wrote:Beast King / Rivera ***** - stalls and keeps raising with her unique ability AT

Just like Verlaat, a minor nitpick. She doesn't raise AT (temporary buff), but raises attack damage (permanent buff). Of course you know this when you've played for a while, but inexperienced users looking at it...

Jazzock wrote:Mad Beast / Dandan *** - really strong lvl4 unit, awesome auto skill deals up to 100 damage per turn

Awkward wording, because I am pretty sure his auto skill does not hit up to 100 damage per turn.

Gonna recommend Burning Air https://alteil-login.apocoplay.com/cardDB/detail.php?id=878 to Big Red, possibly Mid Red as a board wiper. It's occasionally more efficient than Ball of Flame, costs less Sp overall, and pierces damage. The only downside is that it hits your own units, so just be smart with it.
