Back on topic, a new trend I've noticed is Jewel with Owl Sage SS. Doesn't that let you play up to a L6 unit on turn 3? The Faytis argument was pretty stupid, but up to L6 on T3 is unprecedented in Alteil and I think worthy of consideration.

I played a jewel open today. I ended up losing, but it wasn't cause of jewel, it's cause serpent's really strong verse the deck I was playing. Jewel open felt pretty ordinary and normal. You guys cra cra.

Actually, to revert this thread back on topic: I don't think it's the Jewel so much as it is the mediator SS that Jewel is just a perfect fit for. I mean if you go with a 1-3 open, the whole jewel mediator nonsense doesn't look all that hot because then it just becomes a regular 2 SP SS. The problem is that if you 2-2 open, tidal->Faytis ruins you. If you go 2-1 open, tidal+mediator drain+faytis ruins you. EN can answer this with Dagon+shade (if the EN player packs shade), pixies can go greatsword into healer or archer/mage (archer also keeps cyclone at bay, so it'd be the better play), though blowing a lock pixy in the first couple of turns seems to be asking for it.

However, if you wanted to say, run monsters with Falkow, and thought of opening 2 gow 1 falk tiger->observer, or open archer scout->dryad, or any 2-1 open that you can't just tidal instantly, then you just lost the game right there because you're 3 SP in the hole from the get-go.

I mean odds are, in any other sphere, we wouldn't even be having this discussion, but since tidal and faytis are involved...well, it seems it's everything but the jewel.
