Strategies and Card File Construction

Merc File

I was rather excited at the new sets inclusion of mercs. So I thought I would share my early experience of them. While I doubt they will be the next meta, they are quite good to play and can bring results if you have the right cards.

The down side is that you will need Ex Fierte to make the most of Heierrat Knights skill, and Ex Yuni if your don't have the new Yuni to really give you a chance.

I've found that starting with Heierrat army and using them to buff Fierte is a good opening. Next Heierrat Knight who works well with Fiefte. Then it's really up to you what you play, but consider that you need the field commander on early to get the most from her buffs. Then play cards that have cheap action skills like Rev Blade, and merc fencer. To try and trigger the commanders second surge skill. I have only achieved this once! I only pack two grims, Rapid Growth and Fire Arrow. For souls you will probably want Dryad for rank up and Delrare for good muti damage.

Know why it won't be the next meta?

Everything there costs SP to revive. Any DF busting (amethyst buncle, SK0) will end you. Returns will end you. Gafc SS will end you. Fierte SS will end you. DF piercing will end you.

Merc nation was never viable because it cost too much SP to set up and keep out, and their level 3 reviver is absolute trash. This set didn't solve that.

Everything you say is true, but it is fun to play and I was just trying to give some hope to the fans that brought set 12, as I did to extend their choice of mercs.

It's fun to play when you can actually play it. If the testing team would have a half-decent understanding of the game's mechanics, we'd be getting somewhere.

Heierrat Field Commander = 3sp a turn for merc nation. If field is empty just press pinpoint and it counts.

I suggest a version with Dryad Soldier SS being replaced by Heierrat Horseman units.
