Alteil was fun back in the set 5-6 days, before it was "oh hey just put together all these units that give each other bonuses and plop away". Files were organic and put together based on synergy rather than "this unit gives bonuses to this other unit that shares a type with it".

In MTG return isn't as powerful simply because next round you get your lands untapped so you can immediately replay the unit.

In fact it's actually fine in MTG. You'll probably hate damage more ...

You're not far from the truth. For some formats last year, the metagame has been dominated by a deck whose strategy relies on one-cost creature with 3 PWR and Flying to deal accumulative damage. By the time you can strike back, they can just burn the very last few life you have.

Counterspell can block any level card played so it's actually probably stronger.

You've just spent 2 cards from your hand. Efficiency is very important in games where you don't have a 25 card hand. A blue deck prefers to go dual or multi-color for Wrath of God or whatever fake Wrath is type 2 at the time. I personally stick to 1.5, so I'm not always up to date on the new stuff.
