Action Skill

A card skill that can be activated by choosing it from the Action Menu. It only appears if you have enough SP to use it.

Action Phase

This is the Phase of the duel when each unit card gets a chance to make an action. All of the fighting takes place in the Action Phase.

Active Phase

This is the Phase of the duel where upkeep takes place; cards take the field, and the Battletime changes.

AGI

Agility Value. This number measures the reaction time and speed of the Unit. Units with higher AGI values go first.

AT

Attack Value. This number is the measurement of the offensive capabilities of the Unit. When a Unit makes an attack against another Unit, this value is used to determine the amount of damage done. Most Active Skills that directly damage another unit also use AT to determine damage.

Auto Skill

A card skill that automatically activates every turn when the card in question is about to act, but just before the Action Menu appears.

Avatar

The image that represents the Iczer in the world of Alteil. Avatars can be customized by buying or earning new components.

Backlash

If two Iczer’s reveal the same card at the same time, it is called a Backlash. Both cards are sent to the Cemetery automatically.

Batora

An evil force originating outside of Lavato. In the ancient past, Batora attempted to take Lavato as its own. It was defeated by the Gods of Old, who fought with power lent by the heroes, monsters, and other inhabitants of the world.

Battletime

The time of day. Duels always begin at dawn, and from there each turn the time changes. There are three possible Battletimes: Morning, Day, and Night. Some cards get bonuses at certain times.

Burial

When you chose not to Revive a card, it is called Burial. When you Bury a card it is sent to the Cemetery next turn, and you recover the SP you put into that card in to Set it in the first place. For example, Burying a level 4 card, will return 4 SP to you.

Card File

A Set of 30 cards built with the File utility. The Card File is what you bring to a duel; it is the set of cards you fight with. The first five cards of the Card File are known as Soul Cards.

Card Subtype

These are categories, such as class, race, allegiance, or species. Each card can have up to two, and they are important for certain special effects. For example, Steel, a wizened old soldier, gives bonuses to any other cards of the “Warrior” Subtype. Other examples of Subtypes are Lycanthropes, Undead, Priests, Martial Artists, subjects of the Solar Kingdom, Monsters, Great Spirits, and Mermaids.

Cemetery

Usually noted by a gravestone symbol, the Cemetery is where Closed (HP=0 or less) cards are sent if they cannot be Revived in one turn. You can look through both yours and your rival’s Cemetery from the game screen.

Characters

Characters are Units that have a specific name. This name is listed after their profession, separated by a slash mark. They are unique, and only one can be in a particular duel. For example, there is a Unit called “Knight of the 2nd Shrine.” This is a standard Unit, and many such knights can be on the battlefield. There is also a Character, “Leader of the 2nd Shrine / Shathia”. Here, “Leader of the 2nd Shrine” describes the Character’s profession, and “Shathia” is the character’s name. There can only be one instance of Shathia in a duel.

Character Backlash

Only one instance of a Character can be in play at a time. If you attempt to bring out a second instance of a Character in play, you will cause a Character Backlash. The Character in play will be fine, but the second instance will be sent to the Cemetery automatically.

Close

Another word for “face-down card.” To Close a card, set its HP to zero by any means (such as damage). It will then turn facedown and become Closed.

Close Skill

Church of the True God

The most widespread religion of Lavato, it was begun in times past by a single man, the charismatic High Priest Abel. Since then, the Church has become entailed with the politics of Folrart, and has established a mighty inquisition. Now, the words if its inquisitors strike fear in their political opponents and the unfaithful alike.

Damage

You can reduce the enemy unit’s HP by doing damage. Damage can be resisted by armor, in the form of the enemy unit’s DF value. This is in contrast to subtracting from the enemy’s HP directly, which bypasses armor.

Deploy

This is when you take your card from the Set area and choose where it will appear on the battlefield. You will then see the card appear, but with a black border around it. The black border disappears during the next Active Phase, when the card officially Takes the Field. Your opponent will not see where you have Deployed your unit until it Takes the Field.

DF

Defense Value. This number measures the Unit’s ability to shrug off attacks. It is subtracted from incoming damage before that damage is applied to HP. Few Units have any DF at all. It is usually granted as a special effect from Skills and Grimoires.

All enchanted cards either summon Units or Grimoires. Unlike Units, Grimoires have no statistics except Level.

HP

Hit Points. All Units have Hit Points. When the Unit is takes damage, that number is subtracted from the Unit’s HP. When a Unit’s HP is at zero or less, the Unit is dead on the battlefield. Unit Hit Points are kept track of by the computer and can be healed or recovered just like Hit Points in any RPG.

SP

Spell Points. This is an attribute of the Iczer, not of any cards. It represents the pool of energy the Iczer has with which to Set cards, activate special powers, revive cards, and do anything else that has an SP cost. Most importantly, spending one SP raises the level of one of the Iczer’s four Spheres of Influence. Spheres of Influence raised this way last for the entire duel.

Spheres of Influence

While each of the Gods of Old are in a deep sleep, their immense powers remain, ingrained within the world of Lavato. These residual energies are known as their four Spheres of Influence, or simply Spheres. Everything on Lavato, from natural disasters to spells to cities to individual heroes falls under the Spheres of Gowen, Lawtia, Falkow or Refess. In the lower left of each card is the top of a colored Sphere that identifies which of the four Gods of Old influences the particular Unit or Grimoire. Yellow represents Refess, Purple represents Lawtia, Blue represents Falkow, and red represents Gowen.

Sphere Levels

There are four of these, one for the Sphere of Influence of each of the Gods of Old; Refess Level, Lawtia Level, Gowen Level and Falkow Level. They represent the Iczer’s skill level in controlling Units and activating Grimoires that fall under each God of Old’s Sphere of Influence. In order to Set a card, the Iczer must have the value of their appropriate Sphere Level equal or higher to the card’s Level. Once a Sphere Level is raised, it will remain for the remainder of the duel. Having a high level in one of these Spheres will also cause certain cards to Rank Up, unlock new Skills, or increase the effectiveness of their Skills.

Units

One of the longest-standing kingdoms of Lavato. Located on the rocky shores of the great ocean, Regus is ruled by the most powerful wizards in the world. Its army is legendary for defense, and it is said that a Wizard Kingdom castle could last under siege for 100 years. Subjects of tumultuous kingdoms like Folrart and Crest are envious of the stability to be found in Regus. However, even Regus is not immune to the threat of a powerful traitor from within its highest ranks.
